YouthWorker.com – Reaching Beyond Ourselves: Caring for Those in Foster Care

Foster children are the heart of the story that propelled me into youth ministry.   My mom and dad were foster parents for twenty years and it shaped the person I am today.  I’d like to dedicate this article reference to a few foster children heroes that I had the privilege to grow up with:

DeShawn – you never gave up and you persevered through it all.  I am so grateful that God has blessed you with a beautiful, rowdy family.  I am in awe of your strength.  There was a cosmic plan for us to be sisters – from first grade tattling (bossy me, of course), to shared 6th grade birthday parties and even twenty year high school reunions!  Love you.

Michael – I don’t know where you are today, but I pray you grew up in a world where you were deeply loved and protected.  Keep praying our lives stumble across the same path someday.  Would have loved being your big sis for even longer.
